Description
Journal for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Hull (and variant spellings) families who came from Africa, Austria, England, France, Finland, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Prussia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Wales. Some were Palatinate immigrants. Some focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of the English Hulls of Crewkerne, Somerset County, England. Among those who settled in Massachusetts ca. 1630, were Richard Hull, Isaac Hull, George Hull, and Reverend Joseph Hull who was George's brother. Descendants of these and other Hulls settled in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the 1600s. In the 1700s, some settled in Nova Scotia (Canada), and in Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. During the 1800s, some moved to Ontario and Quebec (Canada), Mexico, and to Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia and Newfoundland (Canada), and in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and elsewhere. Some adoptions are noted. Main focus is on the pre-1900 Hulls.
Former Title Complexity
Title varies: The HFA journal (v. 1 nos. 1-2 and v. 2 no. 1); Hull Family Association journal (v. 2 no. 2 - ); The Hull Family Association (HFA) journal.
Issuing Body
The first Hull Family Association (or Organizaton) was created in July 1904 in New York. By 1912, the Association had published several documents and a book compiled by Col. Charles H. Weygant, "The Hull family in America." By 1914, the asssociation dwindled into inactivity. Robert E. "Saratoga Bob" Hull published the "Hull Family Association newsletter" from 1981-1985, which was the foundation of a new Hull Family Association. The Association was officially re-established in October 1985, by Robert Hull Taylor. The Association began publishing the new "Hull Family Association newsletter" in the spring of 1986, and "The Hull Family Association (HFA) journal" in February 1990. For table of contents, membership, back issue order forms, and other information, see their Web site.
Cumulative Index/Finding Aids
A cumulative index of sorts is included in vol. 13 no. 2 (summer 2002) issue in the article "Earliest Ancestors of the HFA Members, and Locations of Their Ancestral Homes." pp. 75-93. A table of contents of previous issues and their articles appears at the end of every issue, and on their Web site.
Binding Information
Commercial Bind 380B spine title: HULL FAMILY ASSOCIATION JOURNAL, (years); Earlier issues were bound in #770B & #798B. Decided to stick with 380 rather than go back.
