James Schoolcraft was born in New York, and moved to Harrison County, Virginia (now Lewis County, West Virginia), where a son, George Schoolcraft, was born. George married Catherine Sweet Brown and moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, where their five children were born between about 1818 and 1830. The last child was Squire G. Schoolcraft (1830-1902), who married Margaret Fleming Tarter in 1854, and moved about 1872 to Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana.
