Description
Francis Purdy (ca.1616-1658) was a son of John and Elizabeth Purdy, and a grandson of Francis Purdy. He emigrated from England to Concord, Massachusetts, and married Mary Elizabeth Brundish. They moved to Fairfield, Connecticut about 1640. Gilbert Purdy (1740-1825) married Elizabeth Ogden, and took an active part on the British side during the Revolutionary War. In 1783, he and his family emigrated from New York to St. John, New Brunswick. Later they moved to Purdys Point, Long Reach, New Brunswick. His brother Stephen and several cousins also immigrated to New Brunswick as Loyalists. Descendants and relatives lived in New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and elsewhere. Some descendants later immigrated to North Dakota and elsewhere in the United States.
