Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Geer (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Bavaria, Belgium, England, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, and Wales. Some focus is on (but not limited to) George and Thomas Geer who left Devon, England in 1638, and landed in New York. From there they went to Boston, Massachusetts, then made their home in Ledyard, Connecticut. Most American Geers descend from these brothers. Other Geers and allied families also settled in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the 1600s. In the 1700s, some settled in Prince Edward Island (Canada), and in Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Vermont. During the 1800s, others moved to Ontario and Quebec (Canada), and to Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan (Canada), Australia, Barbados, England, France, and in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and elsewhere. Some have African American bloodlines.
Issuing Body
The Geer Family Association was formed in 1976, and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1996 in the State of Connecticut. Their first reunion was held in 1976, in Ledyard, Connecticut, the home of the first two Geers in America. Every other reunion is also held at Ledyard. Membership and other information is available on their Web site.
