Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Brainerd (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Focus is on descendants of Daniel Brainerd (1641-1715), who left Braintree, England and immigrated to America when he was about eight years old. He lived in Hartford, Connecticut, until 1662, and later established his home at Haddam, Connecticut. In 1664, Daniel married Hannah Spencer, and had eight children: Daniel, James, Joshua, William, Caleb, Elijah, Hezekiah, and Hannah. Many descendants and other Brainerd families remained in Connecticut for several generations. During the 1800s, some Brainerds moved to Quebec (Canada), Haiti, and to California, Colorado, Delaware, the Indian Territory, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington Territory, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia and Ontario (Canada), Ecuador, Germany, Spain, and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington D.C., and elsewhere. Includes information about adopted family members, some of whom took on the Brainerd surname. Some had Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and other American Indian bloodlines. Information on births, marriages, deaths were extracted from cemetery inscriptions, census, correspondence, county court records, ledgers, marriage indexes, marriage records, newspaper clippimgs, obituaries, parish registers, probates, published histories, shared research, Soundex, wills, and other sources.
