Description
Periodical for the collection and interchange of family history and genealogical data about the Mehrten--Kettelman--Poppe families in the United States, and particularly in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Contained organization of Mehrten Family Association, in care of the editor at Porterville, California. There were also listings of the officers and changes thereto, as well as announcements of annual family reunions, usually somewhere in the San Jaoquin Valley. Some of the issues included the story of how and when the three families (Mehrten, Kettelman, and Poppe) moved from eastern United States to California after hearing of the discovery of gold in California. After the initial gold rush, the families turned to land, ranching and farming. Included the story of the immigrant ancestors: Daniel (Wilhelm?) Mehrten (1793?-1844?) married Rebecca Munken about 1825, and after his death, his widow and the family immigrated from Germany to New York. When they heard of the gold rush, the family went by ship to San Francisco, and settled in San Joaquin Valley.
