Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Allred (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Denmark, Wales, and the English counties of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Somerset, Hertfordshire, and Worcestershire. Most descend from King (Saint) Aelred of Rievaulx (1110-1167), through immigrant brothers Thomas Allred (ca. 1740-1809), William Elrod or Allred (ca. 1738-1825)., Solomon Allred (ca. 1730-1782), and John Allred (ca. 1725- ca. 1792). John settled in Orange County (later known as Randolph County), North Carolina ca. 1755. Some focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of a later set of brothers, James (1784-1876) and Isaac Allred who founded Allred's Settlement in Sanpete County, Utah in 1852. The settlement was later known as Little Denmark, Spring Town, and in 1879, it was called Spring City. Another common ancestor was Reuben Warren Allred (1815-1896). Allreds settled in Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina in the 1700s. Many served in the military during the American Revolution. During the 1800s, some Allreds moved to Ontario (Canada), and to Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. Later descendants also lived in Alberta and British Columbia, (Canada), Australia, England, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, and in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., Wyoming, and elsewhere. Some have Cherokee, Shoshone, Ute, and other American Indian bloodlines. Information is given about persons adopted into the Allred family.
Issuing Body
The Allred Family Organization (AFO) was first organized in 1987 in Lehi, Utah by a group of descendants of Reuben Warren Allred. The National Allred Family Organization (NAFO) was informally organized ca. October 1990, comprised of the descendants of many different Allred ancestors. Currently it has numerous regional and state branches and representatives, such as the Rocky Mountain Allreds, the East Coast Allred Family Association, the Mid-West or Mid-Continent Branch, the North Central States, and other branches. Their first international reunion of the NAFO was held on June 1991, in Spring City, Utah. The Organization was incorporated as the Allred Family Organization, Inc. in February 1992. Headquarters were moved to South Jordan, Utah in 1995, although most reunions are held in Spring City. Membership, indexes, select full-text articles, and other information is on their Web site.
