Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Shropshire (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from England and Wales. Some allied families came from Germany and Ireland. Some focus is on (but not limited to) descendants of Reverend St. John Shropshire (d. 1718), who probably came from Marlborough, Wiltshire, and was probably the first Shropshire to immigrate to America. He was was the son of an inn keeper, Oliver Shropshire. Reverend St. John Shrophsire was a graduate of Oxford, England. He settled in the colony of Virginia around 1694, and was a minister of the Anglican Church at Washington Parish, Westmoreland County, Virginia. He moved his large family later to Clark County, Kentucky. In the 1600's-1700's, his family and other Shropshires (and variant spellings) lived in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. During the 1800's, some moved to Mexico, and to Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Later descendants also lived in Ontario (Canada), England, Switzerland, and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Washington D.C., and elsewhere.
