John Tripp (1610-1678) of Northumberland, England, emigrated to Newport, Rhode Island in 1630 and settled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He married Mary Paine. His son Joseph (1644-1718) married Mehitable Fish in 1667 and later settled in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Descendants settled throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
