Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Light (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Germany, Switzerland, and from Lancashire, Warwick, and other counties in England. This newsletter includes (but is not limited to) the ancestors of General and United States President, George Washington (1732-1799), through his great-grandfather, Jonathan "John" Light. Jonathan Light was born ca. 1682 in Zurich, Switzerland, and who immigrated to Virginia in 1657. He married prior to 1725, and died in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1759. During the 1700-1800s, other Light ancestors also settled in Barbados (West Indies), and in Alabama, Arizona Territory, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico Territory, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma (Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Choctaw Nations), Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington Territory, and West Virginia. Later descendants also lived in Ontario (Canada), New Zealand, Malasia, and in Alaska, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Utah, and elsewhere. Some had African American bloodlines; some had American Indian bloodlines.
