David Ackerman was born in Oss, province of North Brabant in the Netherlands. He married Lysbeth Bellier in 1641. They immigrated to New York in 1662. Descendants lived in New York and elsewhere.

Casperus Ackerman, born in 1752, the first of this family to settle in Albany County, recorded a deed in 1791.
