Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Sly (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Baden, Bavaria, England, Holland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Prussia, and Scotland. Some allied families came from Sweden. Some Sly ancestors immigrated in the 1600s to Connecticut, Maryland, and Massachusetts. In the 1700s, some settled in New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. During the 1800s, some moved to Ontario and Quebec (Canada), and to Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Descendants also lived in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Texas, Washington, and elsewhere. Issues include documented articles from other published works, correspondence, ancestral charts, and photocopies or extracts of birth records, cemetery inscriptions, census returns, church records, court records, family Bible records, land records, marriage records, military records, naturalizations, newspapers, pensions, probates, registers, tax records, vital records, wills, and other primary and secondary record sources for the years the 1600s-1993. Includes adoptions and legal name changes.
Issuing Body
The National Sly Family Association was formed in 1981 by Reverend John R. Gray and others researching Sly families of North America and Europe. The Association became defunct some time after July 1993.
