Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Lay (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Baden, England, Germany, Ireland, Pfalz, and Wales. Some immigrated the United States, via Canada. Some settled in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Virginia in the 1600s. In the 1700s, some settled in Nova Scotia (Canada), and in Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vermont. During the 1800s, some moved to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Alberta and New Brunswick (Canada), England, and in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming, and elsewhere. Some were orphans. Some have African American bloodlines.
Issuing Body
The Lay Family Genealogical Association was founded in 1995. It was officially chartered June 1996, in Caryville, Tennessee, and was later incorporated in the State of Florida in 1997. Membership and other information is available on their Web site.
