Subtitles: v. 1. being the first three generations of the Tennison family in St. Mary's and Charles Counties, Maryland (1650-1770), together with earlier records of the Dennis family in Virginia -- v. 2. sometimes called Tennis, Dennis, or Dennison, during the period 1650-1770, together with 1635-1657 records of John Gresham of Northumberland Co., Va., and other early Greshams -- v. 3. records of the Tennison family during the period 1650-1800 in Southern Maryland, with a few extensions of the family to Va. and N.C. The surname Tennison is sometimes written as Dennis. Allied families include Burch, Chesire, Price, Scott, Swann and Williams.

Chiefly a record of the Tennison family from 1650-1770 in the counties of St. Mary's and Charles in Maryland. Also includes the Dennis family in Virginia before 1650. Volume 3 deals with the Tennisons in southern Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina from 1650 to 1800.
