Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Honaker (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from the Channel Islands, France, Germany, and Switzerland. Focus is on the descendants of Hans Jacob Honnegger (Honaker), a Swiss-German carpenter who as born in 1718. In 1747, he married Anna Bleyler in Prattelin, Canton of Baseland, Switzerland. They immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1749, with their infant son, Jacob. Anna and their son Jacob died aboard ship. Hans then married Maria Goetz in Philadelphia on 8 July 1753. They lived in Philadelphia, Maryland, and Virginia, and had 13 or 14 children, named Henry, Frederick, Peter, Benjamin, Joseph, Nicholas, Mary, Elizabeth, Martin, Abraham, Isaac, Anna, and Christiana. Hans Jacob died in May 1796 in Wythe County, Virginia. Some descendants became carpenters, clock makers, glass-blowers, gunsmiths, and woodcraftsmen. Some of Hans Jacob's sons, Abraham, Joseph, and Frederick created the famous Honaker rifle. Honakers lived in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia in the 1700s. During the 1800s, some moved to Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Later descendants and relatives also lived in Switzerland, and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and elsewhere.

Issuing Body
The Honaker Family Association was organized in 1989, at Pulaski, Virginia. Ralph W. Honaker of Huntington, West Virginia formed the National Association of Hans Jacob Honaker Families, and served as its first president for eight years. In 1992, the Association was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Virginia as the National Association of Hans Jacob Honaker Families, Inc., with its headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. It is also known as the National Association of Hans 'Honnegger' Honaker Families, Inc. The Association has national officers as well as state representatives.
