Notes
General Note
Collection probably by Frank Hartle, to whom most of the letters are addressed.
Description
Chiefly contains letters from various persons, throughout the United States, with the surname Hartle. Includes some genealogical information about their families. Some of the correspondents had German ancestry.
Description
Includes a brief genealogical sketch, probably about Hartle ancestors of Frank Hartle. John Hartle and his wife, Lydia Kniveton, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and immigrated to the United States in 1856 with their daughter, Mary. Immigration records show that John Hartle was age 70, Lydia was 71, and Mary was age 36. They joined a handcart company for the migration to Utah and died on the trail. Their son, William Hartle (1822-1879), was born at Bonsall, Yorkshire, England. He married Mary Aldred in 1849. She died in 1852. He married 2) Mary McNichol (d. 1882) in 1855. They had eleven children. Their tenth child was born in 1873 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, and their eleventh child was born in 1875 at Charleston, Wasatch County, Utah, so the family immigrated to Utah sometime between these dates. Samuel and Mary Hartle died at Pleasant Grove, Utah.
