Alexander Roy was born in 1761 in Cantsie, Scotland, parents unknown. He married Sarah Hurd in 1799 in Barnet, Vermont. He died in 1840 and his wife died in 1853. Sarah Hurd was born in 1777 in Rochester, New Hampshire to Tristram (Trisham, Trishram) Hurd (Heard) and Elizabeth Perkins. Tristram was the grandson of John Hurd. John was born ca. 1610 in England and came to Dover, New Hampshire in 1636. Around 1642 he married Elizabeth Hull, the daughter of Joseph Hull and Joanne Coffin. John died in Jan. 1688/9 and his wife died in 1709. Descendants have lived in New Hampshire, Vermont, California, Nevada, and elsewhere.

In 1913, William Edward Crane married Emily Louise Roy, the great-granddaughter of Alexander Roy. William was born as William Andrew Dickens in 1874 in Indiana to James Dickens (Deakins) and Olive Agnes Boland. In 1876 William was adopted by William Crane and Mary Jane Moss. He died in 1939 in California while his wife died in 1964 also in California.
