Description
Absalom Fobes was serving in the Continental Army as early as 1775. He was killed in the battle of White Plains, New York, in 1778, leaving four minor sons. His son, Libeus Forbes, was born in 1773 or 1774 at Northbridge, Massachusetts. He married Hannah Warren at Grafton, Massachusetts, in 1795. They had two children, 1796-1797. Absalom and Hannah were divorced before 1804 and Libeus and his son, Jasper, headed west. They were living in Knox County, Ohio, by 1814. When Libeus remarried ca. 1817, Jasper Forbes left home and settled in Madison County, Ohio. He married Polly Shepherd (d. 1820) there in 1819. They had one son born in 1820. He married 2) Jane Danby (d. ca. 1823) in 1820. They had two children, 1821-1823. Jasper disappears from the records after 1826. Family traditions states in was captured by Indians and lived with them for seventeen years. His three children lived in Tazewell County, Illinois, and raised families there.
