Issuing Body
The Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society (PCGS) was formed in the fall of 1992 to preserve, protect, and provide to the public any information related to their county's history and the heritage of its families. PCGS is a non-profit organization. It became a chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society in 1993. In January 1994, they established the Frontier Heritage Library and Museum, which houses one of the best historical and genealogical collections of their vicinity. It includes vast collections of historical artifacts, books, county records, and documents that have been organized, indexed, and preserved by volunteers to make them available and easily used. The Society sponsors various seminars, workshops, educational classes, programs, and study sessions on heritage research, historical topics, and preservation methods. They also sponsor a weekly television show on Cox Cable Omaha entitled "In Pursuit of Memories" and expand their service through the World Wide Web. Their Web site features indexes to, and digital images of biographies, birth records, books and periodicals, cemetery records, churches, cities and towns, classes, death records, equity files, family histories, land records, marriage records, military records, miscellaneous records, Latter-day Saint heritage, name indexes to select census records, obituaries, probate records, queries, schools, townships, wagon trains, wills, and other information.
