Description
Creag Dhubh annuals include a message from Cluny, Chief of the Clan, and reports from representatives of each branch of Clan Macpherson Association in Australia, England & Wales, New Zealand, Scotland, and South Africa. The United States Branch publishes its own quarterly journal, "The Urlar." An agenda for the upcoming International Association gathering is included, with reports of the happenings, new acquisitions, and needs of the Clan House and Museum in Newtonmore, Scotland. The annual also includes news of Clansmen around the world, their activities, births, engagements, marriages, deaths, obituaries, their book reviews, and articles of historical, genealogical, and cultural interest. Tradition says that Gillicattan Mor Mac Gillespick came to the Lochaber region of Scotland, east of Loch Ness, where he founded the Clanchattan. Three of Gillichattan Mor's sons founded branches of the Old Clanchattan (Clan Chattan). Murriach, his younger son founded Clann Mhuirich. His grandson, Duncan was called the Parson of Parish Laggan. From that came the name Macpherson, or Mac-a-Phearsain, in Gaelic, meaning "Son of the Parson." This became family surname in the 15th century. Macphersons (and variant spellings) families moved from Scotland to Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States of America, Wales, and elsewhere.
