Description
Epke Jacobse (son of Jacob) Banta was a farmer from Harlingen, Holland, called "the common ancestor of the prolific family of that name". Epke emigrated, with his wife and 5 children, on 13 February 1659. They settled at Flushing. Later they went to Bergen, near Hackensack New Jersey. Dirck Bensingh married Catalina Berck. They emigrated from Groningen, Sweden, via Amsterdam to New Amsterdam on 23 August 1649. He died in Albany on 12 February 1659. Jan Pieterse Staats emigrated from Huysen, Holland, before 1640 and settled on Long Island. His first wife was Elsje. He married second, Grietje Jans, on 16 May 1652. He married a third time on 15 November 1663 the widow of Frederick Jansen. Caspar Mabille, sergeant, was the ancestor who emigrated from Anjou, France to Naarden, Holland, then to New Amsterdam before 1650. He was appointed constable of Harlem New York, on 29 September 1696. The name Mabille was changed to Mabie or Maby.
