Description
James McElmurray was Scotch Irish, born in Ireland, probably Armagh County. He married and was father to at least one son. The names of his wife or any other children are unknown. It is believed that James and his son, Patrick, came to Charleston, South Carolina, and traveled up the Savannah River to Wilkes County, Georgia. James received a land grant, and lived until his death, sometime before 1786. Patrick settled in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he raised his family. Patrick was born about 1745 and died before 1818. The author traces 1101 descendants for 12 generations from James McElmurray through his son, Patrick. Descendants live in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas and elsewhere.
