Description
Journal for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Macpherson Clan (and variant spellings) who came mainly from Scotland, and settled in the United States of America. Tradition says that Gillicattan Mor Mac Gillespick came to the Lochaber region of Scotland, east of Loch Ness, where he founded Clanchattan. Three of Gillichattan Mor's sons founded branches of the Old Clanchattan (Clan Chattan). Murriach, his younger son founded Clann Mhuirich. His grandson, Duncan was called the Parson of Parish Laggan. From this came the name "Macpherson" or "Mac-a-Phearsain" in Gaelic, meaning "Son of the Parson." This became the family's surname in the 15th century. Macphersons (and variant spellings) moved from Scotland to Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, Wales, and elsewhere. Some settled in Ontario and Quebec (Canada), and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Wyoming, and elsewhere. This journal has reports and announcements of national Highland Games, Clan Gatherings, art, biographical sketches, culture, folklore, genealogy, history, literature, and other items of interest. Years covered are 1400 to the present.
