Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Longenecker (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland. Some were Anabaptists, Mennonites, and members of the Church of the Brethren. Many came from the Langnau area near Langenegg, in Emmental, Caton Bern, Switzerland. It is possible earlier ancestors came from Lake Contance area, which includes Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Some from the Langnau area moved to the Jura Mountains in France-Switzerland, and to the Palatinate area and the Schwarzenau area in Germany. En route, some went to Holland. Some Langenggers immigrated to the American colonies in the 1770s. One Ulrich Longenecker (1670-1757) came from Ruegsau, married Elizabeth, immigrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania before 1718, and settled in Coventry. Another Ulrich or Woolrick Longenecker (1664-1752) came from Langnau, Canton Bern, Switzerland. He married Ann Blaser (b. 1694), and in 1733, Ulrich and Ann left Switzerland, with two sons, Ulrich and Jacob. Some of their older sons had left for America prior to 1733. Ulrich's family settled at North Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The mission of this newsletter is to provide documentation and research data for the 18th century Longenecker genealogies, and to settle the dilemma of the two Ulrich Longeneckers, born in 1664 and 1670. Later Longaneckers also lived in Ontario (Canada), and in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere. For more information, see their Web site.
