Description
Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Ruffner families who descended from Peter Ruffner (1713-1778) and Mary Steinman (1714-1798) and their eight children, Joseph, Benjamin (Sr.), Catherine, Peter Jr., Reuben, Tobias, Elizabeth, and Emanuel. In 1731, Peter (Sr.) left Maienfeld, Switzerland in the Upper Rhine Valley and settled in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1739, he married Mary Steinman and moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, where they established a homestead on Hawksbill Creek in the town of Luray, Page County, Virginia. Joseph Ruffner took his family in 1795 to Charleston, West Virginia. Peter's son, Emanuel Ruffner (1757-1848) married Magdalene Grove and left the family homestead in 1805 to settle in Fairfield County, Ohio. Other Ruffner families are also included. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia (Canada), Japan, South Africa, and in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and elsewhere. Some adoptions are noted. Some have American Indian (especially Crow Indian) bloodlines, and some had African American bloodlines.
