Description
August Heinrich Schneider (b. 1822) was the son of Heinrich Schneider (b. 1792) and Concordia Carolina Ratzschen. August emigrated to Russia from Prussia and settled in Marienpohl (Mariupol) on the Black Sea near Odessa. He married Anna Deutschmann in 1847. August walked to Italy where he learned to make violins and returned to his family in South Russia. They had 12 children, six boys and six girls, in Wickerau. Though a blacksmith by trade, August also worked in construction. In 1873,an accident at a building site took his life. Anna took her family and emigrated to America in 1875. They originally settled near Council Grove, Kansas, but later moved to Wheatly, Arkansas and finally to Rosehill Township near Brewster, Minnesota. Includes Schneider, Engler, Deutschmann, Golda, Held, Lidtke and related lines.
