George Washington Terry (1841-1872) was born in Dekalb County, Georgia, the son of Green Berry Hill Terry (1810-1848) and Margaret Eleanor Gill Terry (1811-1861). The family migrated to Arkansas in 1848 and settled near New London, Union County, Arkansas. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He went to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1867 to attend school. There he met and married Fannie Alabama Pitfield (1746-1887) in 1872. They had eight children, 1873-1887. The family moved from New Orleans to Arkansas in 1873 and settled in Prescott, Nevada County, Arkansas. George married 2) Jennie Feemster (1838-1912) of Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1888. George and Jennie Terry moved to Sulfer, Oklanhoma, in 1906. In 1910, with Jeannie's health failing, they went to live with George's daughter and son-in-law, Dr. John Minos Feemster Gill, who was practicing medicine at Cameron, Texas. They remained at Camerion until Jennie's death. George Terry returned to Sulpher, Oklahoma, where he remained active in civil and church affairs.
