Description
The legend of House Springs is based on the history of the Adam House family which settled in Missouri when it was still Spanish territory. Adam House was a Revolutionary War veteran who moved from Virginia in 1789 to obtain a Spanish land grant in what is now Missouri. He and his wife, Anna, had seven children. The family first spent six years in St. Ferdinand, now Florissant and then moved into the wilderness in what is now Jefferson County. Anna died in 1799. In the spring of 1800, Adam and a son, Jacob, were both killed by Indians. The remaining children went to live with a nearby family.
