Alexander Campbell, son of John Campbell and Esther Fairfield, was born 22 February 1732 in Oxford, Massachusetts. He married Lydia Stearns (1735-1816), daughter of Thomas Stearns and Mary Jennison, in 1757. They had nine children. He died in 1782. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Maryland and California.
