A genealogy and a history of the Dudley family who are the descendants of Edward Dudley (born ca. 1602 and died before 6 Feb 1654/5) who settled in Middlesex county, Virginia in 1637 and later migrated to Franklin county, and from there to Callaway county, Missouri. He married Elizabeth Pritchard (died 1691). Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, and elsewhere.

Gerard Lowther, younger brother of Richard Lowther, Sheriff of Cumberland, in 1568, was brought up to the study of law. He married Lucy Dudley, widow of Albany Featherstonhaugh. He erected his mansion in Penrith in 1585. After his death, his mansion probably descendants of his nephew, Gerald Lowther.

Edward Dudley, son of Robert and Elizabeth Pritchard Dudley, and his wife, Elizabeth Pritchard, immigrated to Virginia in 1637. They settled first in York County and then lived in Newcastle County. Their descendant, Ambrose Dudley (1750-1825), was a captain in the Revolution War. He married Ann Parker in 1773. They had eleven sons and three daughters. The family migrated to Kentucky in 1786. Descendants listed lived in Kentucky and elsewhere.
