Description
The centerpiece of the Conewago area has been the Conewago Chapel located in Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. From there the Catholic priests spread throughout Pennsylvania and into Maryland setting up other chapels, etc. Since 1787 it has been formerly known as Sacred Heart of Jesus and in 1962 was designated as Minor Basilica.

Biographical information for Colonel Jehu Eyre. Colonel Eyre was born in Burlington, New Jersey, 21 January 1738, son of George Eyre of Nottinghamshire, England and Mary Smith of Burlington, N.J.
