J. Matthias Bauer (1754-1837) was born and died in Northumberland (earlier Berks) County, Pennsylvania. Descendants changed the surname to Bowers and lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and elsewhere.

William Casselman/Castleman was born in 1722 probably in New York. His parents were probably German immigrants. He married Margaret and they had four children. They lived in Virginia and Pennsylvania and he was part of a Revolutionary War unit.
