Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Ryerson) and relatives lived in New York, New Jersey, New England, Indiana, Illinois and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to New Brunswick and elsewhere in Canada.

Thomas Smith was born March 10, 1802, probably in Manchester or Accrington, England. His parents were George and Elizabeth Smith. Thomas married Mary Briggs April 18, 1824 in Accrington, and their first four children were born there. Mary and her four children immigrated to the United States in May, 1832. Chiefly, a record of the descendants of William Wynethorpe who was born in Wynethorpe England in 1404. He married Elizabeth in England in 1434. They had one child, Robert Wynethorpe born 1435. Ann Post (1815-1850), daughter of Abraham Post and Martha Stevens, was born in Wyckoff, Bergen, New Jersey. She lived there up until at least 1835 when she married Cornelius Lewis La Coste. Members of the Post and Stevens families were of Dutch descent. The early family members on both sides lived in the New York area.
