James Agee Smith (1787-1875) was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee, the son of George Thomas Smith (1741-1834) and Lear or Leah Agree Smith (between 1751 &1755-1815). He married Margaret Love Stevens (1790-1865), a widow with one son, in 1810 in Sullivan or Smith County, Tennessee. They had nine children, 1810-ca. 1830. Mathieu Agee, a Huguenot, was born near Nantes, France, ca. 1670. He immigrated to Virginia in 1690 and built a plantation near Richmond. He married Ann Godwin, daughter of Isaac and Ann Godwin. They had four children. Descendants of their sons, James Agee (1725-1821) and Anthony Agee (b. ca. 1727), lived in Virginia, Alabama, Missouri, and elsewhere. Carl Erwin Nelson was born in Brigham City in 1903. He attend high school and college in Utah. In 1922, Carl became an LDS missionary and served in Canada. In 1924, Carl was released and later attended BYU and left for New York in 1928, and in 1941, he married Ernestine "Ernie" Neff . In 1943, he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Europe.
