Thomas Arnold was born 13 Jun 1795 at Cowes in the Isle of Wight, the youngest child of William Arnold and Martha Delafield. He died 12 June 1842 Rugby, Warwick, Warwickshire, England. He married Mary Penrose 11 August 1820 in Fledborough, Nottinghamshire, England. Mary was born 21 August 1791 Constantine, Cornwall, England. Mary died 9 April 1859 Coleby, Lincolnshire, England. They had ten children.

Nicholas Arnold (1550-1622) was born in Northover, England. He married Alice Gulley before 1571 and they were the parents of eight children. A grandson of Nicholas, Benedict Arnold (1615-1677) was born in England and became the first Governor of Rhode Island. Benedict Arnold of Revolutionary War fame was a great-grandson of this original Bendict Arnold. Descendants live in Rhode Island, Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, and other states.

Thomas Arnold, born 1599 in Chesselborne, England, came to America on the Plain Joan in May 1635. About 1638 he married Phoebe Panchurst of Watertown, Massachusetts and had six children, one of whom died young. About 1658 he went to Smithfield in Providence Colony. He died September 1674 intestate.

Sophia Parsons was born in 1874 in Avalon, Missouri. Her parents were Charles Parsons (1845-1887) and Lucina Clark Arnold (1845-1923). She married Foster Albert Smiley (1871-1931) in 1901. They had four sons. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and Iowa.
