Hardwick Hall, a fine example of a Tudor mansion, was a seat of the Dukes of Devonshire in Ault-Hucknall parish, near Chesterfield and the Nottinghamshire border. The innkeepers of Hardwick Inn, which is just outside the gates, served as caretakers for Hardwick Hall.

Guillaume Ault was born in about 1400 or earlier and lived in Picardy, France. Descendant, Jean/Johannes/John Ault, was born in about 1716. He immigrated to America and settled in Philadelpha. He married Hannah Henkel and they had nine known children. He probably died in Ontario. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in France, Holland, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario.

Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of Valentine Ault. He was born in 1710 in Germany. He died in 1755 in York County, Pennsylvania. He married Maria Katrina Schmidt. She was born in 1722 in Germany and died in 1759. They were the parents of ten children. A grandchild married into the Meeker family. .

Joseph Brownell (1740-1822) settled in Ontario, Canada after the American Revolution. Prior to moving to Upper Canada he married Ruth Butts in New York in 1762. Many descendants still reside in Canada-- especially Ontario, though members of the family have moved to the United States.

Valentin Alt immigrated to Pennsylvania from Holland about 1738. By 1744 he was living in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He died in York County ca. 1755. His second wife was Maria Catharine Schmidt. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and elsewhere.

Deveraux Godwin and his wife, Elizabeth immigrated from England to America in 1653 and settled on "Godwin's Island" in Northampton County, Virginia. Other Godwins had arrived earlier. Relatives and descendants lived in Delaware, Maryland, Florida and elsewhere.

William Douglas Francis Dillabough was born 1930 in Ottawa, the son of William Joseph Dillabough and Margaret Maude Hayes. He married Phyllis June Lawlor, daughter of Arnold Lawlor, 1948 in Morrisburg. One of the early ancestors was John Christian Dillenbach, son of Jorg Martin Dallenbach and Anna Elizabeth Casselman, born 1718 in Stone Arabia, N.Y. and died in Canada. He married around 1735 Anna Maria Six, daughter of Henrich Six and Christina Theus....
