Hugh Calkins was born about 1600 in Waverton, Cheshire, Endand and died 1690 in Norwich, Connecticut. He married Ann Eaton (?) about 1623. She was born about 1605 in England and died about 1688 in Norwich, Connecticut. They had 6 children: Sarah, Mary, Rebecca, John, David, Deborah, Deborah.

Claes Severtszen Smit (b.ca.1635) emigrated from The Netherlands to land in the Mill Neck near Milford, Connecticut during or before 1662, receiving a land grant as Nicholas Seversmith, a Dutchman (an adaptation of the Dutch name to English terms). Subsequent documentation sometimes used the name of Claes Severtszen Smith. By 1664 he had settled in Milford, and married Mary Tibbals. In 1682 they moved to Huntington, New York, where he died after 1699....
