The McGinnis family originally of Ireland. James McGinnis, son of "Old" Edmund (Edward) and Sarah McGinnis, with his brother John and sister Nella, came from Ireland. James McGinnis and his wife Sarah Davis McGinnis, who were married ca. 1774 in Virginia, lived in Frederick Co., Virginia in the last half of 1700. Thomas Barber was born in about 1614 in Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire, England. He emigrated in 1634 and settled in Connecticut. He married Jane Coggins Bancroft, who had been married to John Bancroft, 7 October 1640. They had six children. He died 11 September 1662 in Windsor, Connecticut. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Edward Barbour was born 6 March 1770 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He married Jane Williamson in 1799. They had ten children. They moved to Barren County, Kentucky in about 1805. Edward died in 1854. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

A biography of Frances Elizabeth Merrill Barbour and Naomi Humphrey Barbour. Francis was born 25 May 1824 in Barkhamsted, Litchfield, Connecticut. Her parents were Merlin Merrill and Clarissa Newton. She married Heman Humphrey Barbour, son of Henry Barbour and Naomi Humphrey, 23 October 1845 in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. They had ten children. Frances died 17 October 1863. Naomi Humphrey Barbour died 7 January 1863.

Lewis Hart was born in 1757 in Devizes, England. He emigrated shortly prior to the outbreak of the American Revolution. He settled at Stonington, Connecticut. He married Anne Elliott, daughter of of Asa Elliott and Mary Beebe, in 1784. They had eight children. He died in 1817 in Huntington, Connecticut.
