Chiefly, a record of many generations of descendants of Francis Purdy, who was born in York, England in 1595. He left England in 1632, going to Concord, Massachusetts, and from there, after a few years residence, to Fairfield, Connecticut. His will was proved 14 Oct 1658. His wife, whom he married in England, was Mary Elizabeth ??? They had three sons, John, Joseph and Francis Purdy II.

Jean Bertolet, son of Jean Bertolet, was born in the Chateau d' Oex in Switzerland, district of Bern. He later lived in Minfeld, Germany and was married to Susanna Harcourt. The family immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1726 where they settled in Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Also includes family of Jean's brother, Peter, who immigrated to America prior to 1720. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio and elsewhere.
