Eberhard Barkley had immigrated to New York from Germany before 1756 and married Margaret A. _____?. During the Revolutionary War, five of his six sons relocated in Canada because of their Loyalist leanings. Christian was one of the Loyalist sons. He married Elizabeth Bauman and had 5 children. Descendants include Casselman, McMillan, Merkley, and related families, many of whom still reside in Ontario.

Henry Barkley was born ca. 1772 in Ireland. He immigrated to America ca. 1802 and married Mary Robb ca. 1803. Mary died ca. 1807 while giving birth to their second child. Henry married Zilpha Moore ca. 1810. They lived in Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania. Henry was the father of eleven children and died 24 April 1857 in Jasper Co., Indiana. Descendants lived in Indiana, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

He had at least two children, Christopher and William, who were both born in Baltimore, Maryland. David Smith Sr. was born November 1730 in Germany and married Anna Barbara (surname unknown) ca. 1750 in Germany or Pennsylvania.
