Joseph Henry Lakeway was born Joseph George Henry L'Ecuyer, 29 April 1860 in Clarenceville or Henryville, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Francis and Julia Guerin, dit (St. Hilaire) L'Ecuyer. Joseph came to the United States about 1880. He married Leora Jane Quimby on 15 September 1884 in Littleton, New Hampshire. Seven children were born to them. Joseph married a second time, Ada E. Christopher Young (fl.1799-1821) married Mary (Polly) Snow in 1808 at Stokes County, North Carolina. One of their nine children was Isaac Snow Young (1821-1862), who married Sarah Fletcher in 1844 and moved to Mercer County, Virginia (now West Virginia).
