William Atkin, III was born 23 March 1859 in Ashland, Pennsylvania. His parents were William Atkin, II and Rachel Thompson. He married Eliza Barnett (1861-1942), daughter of James Barnett and Mary Lacey, in 1893 in St. George, Utah. Thay had seven children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England and Utah.

Relationships difficult to determine. Eight children were born to the Davidson family, 1813-1831, perhaps the children of Frederick Davidson (d. 1832) and his wife, Rhoda Davidson? (1789-1868?). Seven children were born to the Barnett family, 1844-1856. Five children were born to the Payne family, 1841-1855.

James Paty (ca. 1705-1758) was born in Prince George County, Virginia and married Sarah Clanton ca. 1741. James died in Halifax County, Virginia. Descendants lived in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and elsewhere. Also includes descendants of Thomas West and his wife, Ann or Rachel Gilpin. Thomas Barrett (d.1668) and his family immigrated from England to Braintree, Massachusetts between 1635 and 1640, moving in 1662 to Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Moses Barrett (1718-1762), direct descendant in the fourth generation, married Mary Dow and lived in various towns in Connecticut. Descendants lived in New England, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Kansas and elsewhere.

Zadock Barnett lived in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and later was in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He was also in Morgan County, Georgia where he died in 1823. Descendants lived in Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. Smith line is traced to Isaac A. Smith (1832-1908), son of Stephen and Nancy Smith of Fayette County, Alabama. He married Rachel Catherine Pennington in 1851. Both are buried in Franklin County, Alabama.

The author, Maurice J. VanGordon, was born in 1923 to Lloyd VanGordon (1895-1965) and Irene Susan Howland (1897-1972) in Whitelake Township, Michigan. Traces the Howland line back to John Howland and Freelove Wood who were married in 1725. They lived in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Traces the VanGordon line back to Peter VanGordon (d. 1852) and his wife Margaret (d. 1870) of Michigan.

James Russell Barnett was born 2 January 1899 in Canton, Illinois. He was the son of James Franklin Barnett and Idella Mae Mercer and the second great grandson of the immigrant ancestor Phillop I. Barnett. James married Ruth Van Meter 1 January 1921 in Illinois. They were the parents of two children. Descendants lived primarily in Illinois, Ohio, Texas and elsewhere.
