McClain Barrus married Maxine Egbert about 1934. Then he was called on a mission to California for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their correspondence during his mission becomes the basis for this book on their families's history during the time he was gone.

The Barrow/Barrows/Barrus family originally of England later in Massachusetts from the early 1500's to about 1817. John Barrow (1609-1692) married (1) Anne in England; (2) Deborah in Salem or Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony. He resided in Yarmouth, England prior to 1637, and in Salem, Mass. to about 1665, and in Plymouth, Mass. from 1665.
Various spellings include Barrow/Barrows/Barrus etc.

Freeman Nickerson, son of Eleazar Nickerson and Thankful Chase, was born 5 February 1799 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. He married Huldah Chapman (1780-1860), daughter of Eliphalet Chapman and Abigail Chase, 9 January 1801 in Cavendish, Vermont. They had nine children. He died in 1847 in Iowa. Huldah died in 1860 in Provo, Utah. Includes Bailey, Barrus and related families.

Ezra Milton Barrus (1879-1961), a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, married Mary Eliza McBride in 1905, and lived in Pittsburg, California, later moving to Idaho, and then to Salt Lake City. Descendants lived in California, Idaho, Utah and elsewhere.

Freeman Nickerson (1778-1847) and his wife, Hulda Chapman (b. 1801); Thomas McBride (1776-1838) who was the father of James McBride (1818- 1881); and Emery Barrus (1809-1899) were relatives who belonged to the L.D.S. Church before and during the early migration from Nauvoo to Utah. James and Emery settled in Grantsville where many descendants remained. They were ancestors of the author.

Biography of Elizabeth (Bird) McBride (1857-1944), a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who crossed the plains with her parents and their family in 1865, and settled at Grantsville, Utah. She married Orson McBride about 1874, and they lived at St. John (near Grantsville), Utah until they had 4 children and then moved to Oakley, Idaho in 1882.
