Duncan McElmurry came to Canada from Ireland with his wife Margaret Forsyth and at least two children about 1842. Eventually they settled in Ontario where Duncan died in 1848. Margaret remarried and had two daughters to add to the four boys she had had with Duncan. Information on their descendants is included in this volume. Descendants now live in both in Canada and many of the northern states of the United States.

John Snowden Henry Clark was born in 1849 in Philadelphia, the son of Samuel Adams Clark and Sarah Henry. He married Mary Eliza Devenport in New Jersey at the age of 23. "Jacob Leisler ... from Frankfort, came to New Netherland a soldier in the West India Company's service in 1660. He embarked in the ship Otter from Amsterdam, the 27th of April of that year. There was a tradition among his descendants that he came originally from France, and a vague report, a hundred years or so ago in New York, that he was Swiss.
