Matthew Blanchan (d.ca.1687/1688), a Huguenot, emigrated from France to Belgium, and married Magdelaine Joire. During or before 1647, the family immigrated to England; and in 1660 they immigrated to New Amsterdam, settling at New Paltz, New York. Descendants lived in the state of New York.

Robert Fisher (1799-1875) was born at Yarm, North Riding, Yorkshire, England, the illegitimate son of Andrew Fisher (1769-ca. 1832) and Elizabeth Cooper (b. 1778). In 1801, his mother traveled to London where she married her son's father. The family immigrated to the United States in 1802 and settled at New York City. He was born in 1916 at Glen Ellyn, Illinois, the son of Ralph David Hammond (1880-1935) and Lillian Mae Anderson Hammond (1879-1958). He married Jean Elizabeth Collard (1916-1846) in 1939.
