Derk Ten Date (1828-1909), son of Jan Herman Ten Cate, emigrated in 1848 from The Netherlands to Holland, Michigan, married Wilhelmina Lucas in 1850, and Berendina Oonk before 1860. Jan Hendrick Ten Cate (1815-1881), older brother of Derk, married Gerritje van Oorsprong in the 1840s, and the family emigrated to join Derk in 1872. Jacob Janse Gardenier was born in about 1618 in Kampen, Overysel, Holland. His parents were Jan Gardinier and Aeltie. He emigrated in 1636 and was apprenticed to a silversmith in Albany, New York. He returned to Holland in 1642 and married Josina. They settled in Albany and had eleven children. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas and elsewhere.
