Diedrich Wilhelm Haake was born December 27, 1824 at Duedinghausen, Hannover, Germany. He married Engel Marie Brandes in about 1849. They immigrated to the United States in 1856 and settled in Hanover Township, Lake County, Indiana. They had seven children. Engel Marie died July 7, 1864, three weeks after the death of their last child. Diedrich died in 1897. Descendants and relatives lived in Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, California and elsewhere.

Johann Heinrich Ahlers was born 17 May 1818 in Visbek, Oldeburg, Germany. His parents were Johann Hermann Ahlers and Maria Elizabeth Nemann. He married Maria A. Heilman (1828-1900), daughter of Bernard Heilman and Anna Marie Heilman, in 1845 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They had eight children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio and Illinois.

James was an industrious carpenter and plane maker who prospered with the years. He was also a lay preacher.
