James Smythe (1778-1820), of Scottish lineage, was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Smith of Belfast, Ireland. He immigrated to Philadelphia, moved to St. Mary's, Georgia, and married Mary Thorpe in 1803. His will was recorded in Woodbine, Camden County, Georgia. Descendants and relatives lived in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and elsewhere. Includes Thorpe ancestry in Georgia, Virginia and elsewhere to about 1700.

Teige Cantey and his wife, Elizabeth, and four children, lived in Barbados. Their son, George, moved to South Carolina in about 1670 and brought his parents over a few years later. Teige died in 1678. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in South Carolina.
