Ruth Alden Bovey (born 1902), a daughter of Charles Cranston Bovey and Kate Estelle Koon, was born in Minnesota. She married Nathaniel Stevens in 1924; they had four children. The book gives her descent from John and Priscilla Mullins Alden, then focuses on the histories of her grandparents and parents.

Mattheis or Matthias Kuntz and his family emigrated from Bishchmisheim near Saarbrüken, Germany, with the large Palatine immigration of 1710 and settled near the present village of Germnatown, New York, on the Hudson River. He had at least thirteen children from two marriages. Descendants lived in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, California and elsewhere. Samuel Kuhn, Sr. was born ca. 1650-1655. Claude Rankin Moser was born in North Carolina in 1898. He married Bland Moser and they had seven children. Although he worked through out the south, he always considered North Carolina home.
