Thomas Groves (1754-1814), son of Allen Groves, moved from Virginia to Granville (now Franklin) County, North Carolina, married Eady Harrod, and moved during or before 1802 to Sumner County, Tennessee. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, California and elsewhere.

George B. Ballard was born in 1813 in Alabama. He married Elizabeth Thornbrew (d. 1859) in 1834. He married Lucinda Carter, widow of William Reynolds.
